What to Expect from the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S4

Speculation

The dust has barely settled following the launch of the iPhone 5 and yet the impatient masses are already speculating as to what they can expect from the iPhone 6. Likewise, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has just taken the title of World’s Best Selling Smartphone for Q3 this year, but millions are more bothered with what the Samsung Galaxy S4 might bring to the table.

Of course, it isn’t always wise to take for gospel the words of so-called mobile tech “experts” who in reality do nothing other than sell my psp games for a living, but some pretty credible authorities have also jumped onto the rumour mill’s bandwagon. From leaks to inside reports and right through to FCC filings, we’re starting to get a decent picture of what to expect from next year’s biggest smartphones and the outlook is interesting to say the least.

Well, interesting if you happen to be one of the deeply devoted millions, that is.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been around since before the summer, therefore affording the rumor mill plenty of time to come up with its weird and wonderful wish list for 2013’s entry. As is usually the case with the Samsung Galaxy S series, it is easy enough to know what’s to come next simply be looking at the last couple of evolutions and putting a cherry or two on top. By following such a formula, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been largely concluded as coming with a quad-core processor clocked at up to 1.8Ghz, at least 2GB of dedicated RAM and with storage options up to 128GB.

It has also been suggested that Google’s next-generation version of Android – known as Android Key Lime Pie – will also make its official debut with the S4. This would appear very much possible given the way in which the latest Nexus smartphone – the LG Nexus 4 – recently launched with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and thus has left Key Lime Pie ripe for the taking.

In addition, the S4 is expected to boast the best 13-megapixel digital camera ever fitted to a smartphone, along with Samsung’s currently-being-researched flexible glass technology with could allow for a 5-inch edge to edge screen, or perhaps a panel that wraps around the edges.

Expect an official announcement shortly after the 2013 Mobile World Congress in February.

iPhone 6

Here’s where it starts getting tricky, as the iPhone 5 has already delivered on pretty much every expectation we had for the range for this lifetime – all of which is becoming a little dull. The iPhone 6 will carry a faster processor, maybe a slightly larger screen, higher pixel density, more RAM, more storage space, a new version of iOS and so on and so forth – not exactly heart-stopping, is it?

There is one neat feature that might come about however – Apple has recently applied for a patent relating to radar/sensory technology that could prove to be quite the fun toy. Rumour has it that the patent could lead to features that allow a smartphone to identify a user by way of skin tone, facial features or even their heartbeat – all of which add up to excellent security and hours of fun.

In addition, the iPhone 6 is also expected to carry a feature that prevents it from vibrating itself off a surface when in silent mode – so insurance premiums might also be on their way down!
