For people with big ideas, inspiration can strike at any time. Unfortunately, that means it can strike when you are out on the town with your friends, on a promising first date, or even at your sister’s wedding.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Available for Pre-order on Contract

Along with Nokia, RIM has been one of the major mobile phone producers that has taken a bit of a backseat in recent years as they have struggled to adapt to the newly emerging touchscreen market. While companies such as Samsung and HTC have successfully adapted to the new environment, BlackBerry have been trying in vain to stick to their guns. Their first attempts at touchscreen phones, such as the BlackBerry Storm, were not particularly well received. For the Storm it was largely due to the SurePress system used in the screen although another major factor has been BlackBerry’s operating system.

  • Do You Think About Your Home’s Internal Network Security?

Do You Think About Your Home’s Internal Network Security?

Home networks are quite common in many of today’s households. These days, it’s actually quite the norm for the average family to have networking equipment in their home. Having a network in the home makes it a lot easier for computers and other devices to communicate with each other as well as share an internet connection. Yes, home networks provide extremely helpful features to computers, but lots of people forget that internal network security is a big issue with these networks. Many don’t know exactly how to secure their network, and there are many that don’t even take it into consideration.

Internal network security is imperative for a number of reasons. It’s important to secure your home network so that you can keep outside intruders from accessing your network and files, minimize threats like viruses and spyware, and more. For example, if you were to leave your home network unsecured, an intruder could easily access the network and do something like change your login information for you router so that he/she could gain complete control over the device. Even worse, he/she could access confidential files that you wouldn’t want the public tampering with.

  • The Key to Succeeding Online: Adaptation

The Key to Succeeding Online: Adaptation

I just read an interesting article on John Paul Aguiar blog where he asked 8 well-known and successful bloggers what one thing bloggers need to do today to succeed that they didn’t have to do in the past. It is interesting read, as are all his articles, and it got me thinking about what it takes to succeed, not just today, but tomorrow as well.

There are many ideas, and theories, about what it takes to succeed online. Some of those ideas are well-founded, while others are guesswork at best. While I haven’t realized the success as the bloggers in John Paul’s article have achieved, I still have learned a lot in my almost 4 years of blogging. One thing, however, has stood out above all other ideas with regards to success online: adaptation.

Create an Attractive Web 2.0 Design Website

The purpose of Web 2.0 design is to focus on the user, and to step up the level of interactivity. Instead of limiting the user to simply viewing the content you have put on your page, a Web 2.0 design will facilitate dialog & user created content. Some examples of Web 2.0 are blogs, mashups, social networking sites and video sharing sites. In this article we will discuss the different characteristics of a Web 2.0 design.

The first thing to keep in mind when designing, is less is more. Removing unnecessary components will not only make your website load faster, it will direct your users attention to the important parts. It is said that you only have 3.5 seconds to capture and retain the viewers attention, and with Web 2.0, it won’t be hard to do.

  • How to Become a Techie: Understand Don’t Memorize

How to Become a Techie: Understand Don’t Memorize

Back in college I had taken several computer programming languages. I had the opportunity (at times I use that term loosely) to learn COBOL, RPG, Visual Basic, C, Assembler, and the markup language called HTML. This was over ten years ago, so many of the languages used today, such as C# weren’t around then.

I remember the first time I had to write an exam in one of those languages. It came as a surprise to learn that the exam was open book. In face, pretty much all exams for the programming languages were open book. After thinking about that for a moment I realized why they were open book.

  • Traffic Stats: August 2011

    Traffic Stats: August 2011

Much like July, the traffic stats for August were pretty steady throughout the month. There were a few dips that were followed by increases, but overall the traffic level remained consistent.

The one thing, however, that I have noticed is that my traffic seemed to have a minor slowdown compared to both July and August 2010. While there is still a nice increase year-over-year, the overall increase was lower than the previous three month increases. Below is my traffic analysis for August 2011.
