Windows 7 - Logo

Tip one: bringing back the vista taskbar.

It seems like Windows increased the size of the taskbar so people with poor vision would be able to see it, which is a wonderful thing for them to have done. But for the rest of us, these large and often comical icons just take up unnecessary space. To change the size of the icons on the taskbar, right click on the start button and select ‘properties’. This menu controls a lot of items within the taskbar and the start menu. The ‘Taskbar’ option should be at the top left hand corner. Select then, then click ‘use small icons’, and click apply.

Tip two: changing the location of the taskbar

In the same area, you can change the location of the taskbar. People who are used to Apple computers will like this, because the taskbar can be put at the top of the screen, but this is also good for people doing a lot of writing or watching a movie.

Tip three: multiple desktop images on different monitors

If you’re using different monitors for your computer, then chances are then you’d like to have a different wallpaper or desktop background on each of them. There are one or two programs that can do this on Windows 7, but the best part about these is that they are all much cheaper than the ones available on Vista. They also come with a very decent demo version. You can also set up multiple task bars on each monitor. A simple online search will give you the available options.

Tip four: using your desktop to keep a better track of your resources.

Rainmeter is a website with thousands of desktops up for grabs. These desktops include widgets that keep a track of how much memory you have left and an accurate reading of your battery power, as well as better viewing of or your RSS feeds and weather forecasts. Some also come with e-mail alerts, so you know when you have a new e-mail, and FaceBook notifications. Best of all, most of these are free, and they all look really good. They are made by artists all over the world, so there are many to choose from.

So there you have it, four great and easy ways to customising your Windows 7 to look and feel the way you want it to.
