  • Is LastPass Secure?

    Is LastPass Secure?

LastPass is a popular cloud-based password manager that has quickly become popular for those looking for an easy solution to create and keep their passwords safe. There are many software and cloud-based solutions available for managing passwords, such as RoboForm and KeePass, but for many users – myself included – LastPass is what they prefer.

Of course, as with any software that stores personal information, the question on how secure LastPass really is has come up in many discussions online. The “Trust No One” mentality has led many to believe that unless they can see the source, they won’t trust the software. This is one reason many prefer KeePass over LastPass. KeePass is open source (can be reviewed/fixed by anyone), while LastPass is closed (can only be reviewed and modified by the developers)

I endorse and use LastPass for all my passwords, but haven’t really looked into how LastPass manages my personal information, from the time I enter it into their browser add-in. I was curious at what is sent to LastPass, and the software does exactly what the developer says it does to secure my personal information. The good news is that there are ways of finding out, and in this post I will share my findings so you can make an informed decision, not just a decision based on what others say on the Internet. I am hoping that my tests will answer the question – is LastPass secure?

Stop Spam with Project Honey Pot

If you have read my posts recently you get the idea that I hate spam. In fact, I don’t know anyone that likes getting spam. Whether through e-mail, blogs, forums, or Web sites, spam is very annoying to receive and deal with.

I have implemented several measures to prevent spam from appearing on Technically Easy through the use of plugins. About 99.99% of the spam comments I receive get discovered and sent into the spam list. Recently, however, I have joined an online project that has been around for a few years called Project Honey Pot. I’m still learning about it, but this post will explain what I have discovered.

  • How to Display Web Code Examples in Your Web Site

I had been struggling with an issues in some of my blog posts. In posts that explain how to change HTML or PHP code for a web page, I like to display the actual code in my blog post. The problem is that when a visitor copies the code, it isn’t formatted properly. While the actual alphanumeric characters are copied properly, the single and double-quotes aren’t valid.

When I simply typed the single or double-quote character from my keyboard, the characters would be rendered in the browser differently than if I had typed them in the code. The characters would be formatted and looked different on the web page and when they were copied, it would cause coding problems, such as when the code was pasted in the Blogger editor. I think that I have fixed the problem, and I’ll explain how in this post.
