    Compiled Versus Interpreted Languages?

Many people seem to have this idea that interpreted languages are somehow not a proper programming language (as opposed to compiled languages). Well if you ask me that is false. While I agree that some languages are better at some things than others, the fact that language is compiled or not should not be the main factor by which you should be judging its suitability for some given purpose.

In order to understand what i mean with this claim you need to understand this: in order for a program written in any language to run it needs to be translated to binary CPU instructions. This same rule applies to all languages (starting with languages considered to be serious and ending with esoteric languages like Brainf*ck).

The PC Isn’t Dead – The Technology World is Just Shifting

If you following technology stories you probably have seen many articles online about the demise of the PC. While this topic has been in and out of the news for the past several years, it appears to have gained more traction in recent weeks.

Of course, depending on which camp you are in – mobile devices or PC – you can either believe that the PC will be gone soon, or will still have a much longer than suggested lifespan. For me, I am and always have been a PC guy, but at the same time I also realize that things change, especially in the technology world.

Tablets have seen a tremendous rise since they were released a few years ago. It seems many of the top tech companies have produced a tablet, but both Apple and Samsung have clearly been the winners in that market. The popularity in the mobile devices market, and the slowdown in PC sales, has now called many to predict the downfall of the PC.

My answer is “not so fast.”

  • Web Tools and Mobile Phones are Changing the Auto Finance Industry

Web Tools and Mobile Phones are Changing the Auto Finance Industry

Serving clients is very different today compared to 10 years ago, when desktop online financial services were becoming a dominant force in the economy. The online landscape of today changes so rapidly that financial service companies and the professionals working for them have to be nimble and adaptive enough to employ new strategies for doing business with customers.

Research from online auto finance website Lending Expert shows that over 80% of car finance arrangements are initially online.

    Mobile Banking

Technology is changing the way consumers access information and transact business. According to Philip Ryan of Bankinnovation.net, 40 percent of mobile-banking app users don’t use a desktop or laptop to conduct their banking. Ryan points out that combined Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase have almost 25 million customers who use mobile apps to access their accounts on smart phones and tablets.

That means 60 percent rely on a desktop or laptop computer at least some of the time. Businesses continue to expand their presence on traditional websites. One is for their website, the other is mobile-friendly.

    Auto Loans

Banks and other financing institutions have discovered just how transparent they must be when dealing with customers, and they’re realizing that the environment online is impacting the way they compete for business. Relationships with partners, such as dealerships are important, but they’re no longer enough. Shoppers are educated, well-connected and won’t always follow a dealer who tries to steer them toward a specific lender. Research online may lead shoppers to their own preferred lender.

Part of that research includes shopping for specific vehicles online. Prospective buyers don’t have to step onto a car lot until they’re ready to purchase, because there are so many opportunities to browse vehicles online.

TrueCar.com offers buyers the lowest price on pre-owned late model vehicles, and directs them to specific certified dealers in their zip code. Because consumers often can shave a thousand or more dollars off the cost of a vehicle there compared to a new car dealer, financial institutions have to be prepared to issue smaller loans.

When consumers get closer to actually purchasing a vehicle, they may turn to a site like LendingTree.com, which forces banks to compete for buyer business with competitive rates and terms. After indicating the type of vehicle they wish to purchase and specifics about their financial picture, consumers receive actual offers from multiple financial institutions.

    Calculate the Difference

Bankrate.com offers consumers several different calculators to help them find the best options. The site compares such things as rebate vs. low interest, to help buyers determine what may be less expensive in the long run.

All of these sites are of course, accessible on a mobile device. Although many auto and auto loan comparison sites don’t yet have their own apps, it’s only a matter of time before they do. Comparison-shopping apps, such as RedLaser, Decide.com and Google Shopper, let consumers find the best price in their area for almost any product.

  • Is LTE Internet for the Car in Your Future?

Is LTE Internet for the Car in Your Future?

In early 2013, General Motors announced that it was partnering with AT&T to start providing 4G LTE internet in cars, beginning with its 2015 models. This is the most widespread integration of LTE internet into cars so far, but does it mean you’re soon going to be surfing the internet in the middle of traffic? And who exactly thinks that’s a safe idea?

The issue is a bit more complicated than it seems. Internet in the car is a result of cell phone companies looking for new growth, since the mobile market is so saturated and everybody has a phone.

AT&T is providing this internet service through OnStar, which many GM cars already feature. It’s an optional upgrade, and it will come with a monthly service charge just like a regular internet subscription. Whether this new LTE trend will continue to be for a select few or become even more widespread is something nobody is exactly sure of.

    Smart car

    1. The Many Uses of LTE in Cars

When you think of having the internet in your car, you might imagine browsing websites or entertaining the kids on long road trips, but it can potentially do much more than that. In its defense, 4G internet speeds in your car will allow for for better driving and vehicle performance. As you drive, your car’s computer can download safety enhancements, check for mechanical problems, and even display real-time traffic and road condition information on your dashboard.

Of course, you can also access Facebook, Netflix, and other websites on up to 8 devices, essentially turning your vehicle into a wifi hotspot on wheels. GM has declared that LTE will reinvent the driving and riding experience, and in the future, designers will come up with apps for the car instead of just the mobile phone. But whether consumers really want to pay for a service many still see as frivolous remains to be seen.

    2. How Safe Is It?

Naturally, the number one concern with providing internet in cars is distracted driving. In an age where more than 80 percent of drivers admit to having texted behind the wheel, the inherent danger of turning a vehicle into a computer is obvious. But GM specifically is working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to combat this issue, ensuring that apps which don’t meet their standards will be unavailable for access while the car is moving.

GM’s theory is that distracted driving is already so prevalent, drivers will simply be better off with their safer system designed in collaboration with the NHTSA. Not only that, LTE internet is the first step towards greater car-to-car communication, which could one day lead to cars that drive themselves. Nobody will have to worry about distracted driving when they’re working out of their car as it navigates through traffic jams for them.

    3. How Do You Get It?

A surprising number of cars will be equipped with LTE possibilities starting next year, including most Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac models. Brands like BMW and Audi have already begun rolling out this technology, but this is the first time it will be so commonly available. There will be a variety of packages for customers to choose from, depending on what they need from their LTE and what they’re willing to pay for, and just like the OnStar service, GM is discussing a 2-month free trial period.

The car it fitted with a built-in router that provides a signal using the same technology as cell phones, which is also why many opponents are skeptical that it will catch on. With so many driving apps and the ability to sync your smartphone with your car, selling the benefits of an internet connection provided by the car might be difficult. But unlike phones, you won’t have to buy a new one every time the technology improves. You’ll simply take your car to the dealership for an upgrade.

In the end, LTE internet in vehicles is a matter of personal choice. Many tech-savvy drivers will be amazed by the number of things you can do with 4G speeds and in-car apps, while more pragmatic car owners will wait to see if this technological revolution is everything GM hopes it will be. But it’s one more step towards a world where consumers are online 24 hours a day, and that’s why, in a way, the implications are significant, even if the public’s embrace is slow. It’s definitely a fascinating look at where technology will take the future.
