    SEO advice on the internet is generally not helpful in any way whatsoever. Websites such as SEOMoz claim to be experts at boosting sites and providing assistance and advice for others, but most of their advice is of little help, if not worthless altogether. Of course them repeating the phrase, “Black hat SEO is not good” is correct, but if anyone on the internet have not figured that out by now, they are set to fail and should fail.

    Facts being correct are not helpful if they are not easily applicable. These sites say such things as, “Build good backlinks” but barely if even at all explain how to do so.

    Being hit with a google penalty is no joke- especially if you depend upon your website for all or part of your income. And even if your website happens to be nothing more than a hobby blog which you don’t plan to monetize, google-penalty issues hurt.

    Google penalties ranged in severity from a rankings drop to total de-indexation (like what happened with the Build My Rank network a few months ago). If you suspect that your website has been penalized by Google, then there are three main things that you should do: first, verify that you have indeed been penalized; second, try to get back in Google’s good graces; and third, have a good post-penalization strategy.

    Why I Don’t Get Mad at Google

    Over the past year we have seen Google update its algorithm many times. There have been several Panda updates, and now more recently a Penguin update. In a few years, Google may run out of names from the animal kingdom if it continues to push out so many updates. The one thing that I do notice after each update is the amount of backlash from webmasters that were affected.

    So far I haven’t been really affected by the Google algorithm updates, at least not to such an extent where it is noticeable on my traffic numbers. If you have been following my traffic stats for this year, you will notice that my numbers have dropped off since the end of last year. While it is frustrating, I won’t get mad at Google for the drop in traffic, and here is why.
