After continuous use of your PC, the hard disk, registry and system become cluttered with temporary data that makes your PC slower and crash more often. In this article will describe several tips for making your PC run faster.
Do a Defrag Each Week
After using the hard disk, downloading and uploading files, the files on it are spread in several “chunks”. A defrag utility puts the various parts of each file physically close on the hard drive space, so the PC reads and writes the files quicker. Defrag also helps liberate space on your hard disks and frees up occupied space. Windows (R) comes with a built-in defrag utility that can analyze your hard disk and defrag them.
Make sure to run a defrag at least once a week to maintain a speedy and clean computer.
Fix Registry Errors
The 2nd step to maintaining a clean and quick PC is to fix registry errors. The registry is a location in which application DLL paths and settings are stored. As you install and uninstall applications, the windows registry becomes cluttered with unused and old data that makes it slower and is not used. Therefore it is recommended to clean your registry once every few days with a software that cleans the registry and fixes errors. We recommend using RegCare to run a free scan and fix those errors.
Cleaning your registry helps maintain a clean computer, a smaller registry size that is affects the speed of all the applications you use.
Remove Spyware and AdWare
Spyware and Adware are bad software that spy on your surfing activity and sell this data to advertisers, that then show ads on your computer. These are software that slow your PC down and bombard it with ads, and should generally be removed from your computer. We recommend running a spyware check with Spybot S&D (freeware) that searches your PC for various spywares and removes it. Doing this cleanup can not only speed up your surfing, but also protect your private data from getting to the hands of advertisers.
Disable Visual Effects
You can disable visual effects in the Control Panel, in the “System” section:

Windows uses much resources to show visual effects and make the PC look prettier. If you care more about speed than on the visual aspect, we recommend disabling the visual themes and stick to the basic look. This liberates system resources and make your PC run much faster.

I generally do disk Defragment every month, but now I’ll do it on weekly basis.. because I don’t want to take risk with your PC performance. And thanks for sharing “Registry Error” tool as I just removed 147 errors.
Hi Paul
Thank you for the tips. Spyware and AdWare can kill performance on any PC, but I also like to clean up old registry entries as well at programs that autostarts that I don’t use any more. I love the tool from Sysinternals called “Autoruns”. It can show you everything that are starting on your PC each time you boot and it is a lot more that you can actually see.
