Remove Navigation Links For Static Pages in Blogger

I recently received a comment on one of my posts that explain how to create static pages in Blogger regarding removing the navigation links. These links are usually located at the bottom of a post and allow a visitor to navigate to the next or previous posts of the current post.

I decided to look into how to do this as it doesn’t seem that difficult to do. After some testing I managed to hide those navigational links from static pages in Blogger. Let’s look at how to do this.

  • How to Upgrade a Laptop Hard Drive

I recently had an issue with my wife’s laptop. It was running out of disk space. I tried to clean up as much as I could, but after viewing where most of disk space went, I realized it was a losing battle. The problem was I like to take a lot of digital photos, and then upload them on the laptop so my wife could enjoy them. Unfortunately, a 120 GB hard drive just doesn’t have the disk space when it comes to digital photos.

The solution was to upgrade to a much larger hard drive. When I upgrade a hard drive I usually start over with a freshly formatted drive. This time, however, I wanted to just move everything over to the new hard drive and install it without having to reinstall everything. After a few hours, the new hard drive was installed and all applications still worked without any problems. Read on to find out how I did it.

  • Stop Spam with Project Honey Pot

Stop Spam with Project Honey Pot

If you have read my posts recently you get the idea that I hate spam. In fact, I don’t know anyone that likes getting spam. Whether through e-mail, blogs, forums, or Web sites, spam is very annoying to receive and deal with.

I have implemented several measures to prevent spam from appearing on Technically Easy through the use of plugins. About 99.99% of the spam comments I receive get discovered and sent into the spam list. Recently, however, I have joined an online project that has been around for a few years called Project Honey Pot. I’m still learning about it, but this post will explain what I have discovered.

  • WordPress Error: Allowed Memory Size

    WordPress Error: Allowed Memory Size

I recently upgraded to the current version of WordPress. I am always weary about upgrading as there are many things that can go wrong. I realize that upgrading WordPress is required for bug and security fixes, but I also realize that all plugins that I use may not be compatible with the latest version.

That being said, I decided to upgrade when I had time to solve an problems. I waited for some time to see if others have had issues, and when I was satisfied, I performed the upgrade. Once the upgrade had completed, however, I ran into a problem when I accessed my plugins from the admin panel. The problem was related to memory, and it prevent me from viewing the plugins I had installed on my blog. The good news is that the fix was simple, but did take some quick searching to find.

  • 10 Excuses Why You Didn’t Back Up

    This is a guest post.

Dell recently released a report that was produced in partnership with the Ponemon Institute, where they surveyed over 800 people across 106 airports in order to find out more about how/why laptops get stolen or go missing during business travel, and what could be done about it.

According to the report, over 12,000 laptops go missing or stolen every week in US airports. That comes to about 1 laptop every 8 minutes. And even more interesting, was the discovery that 42% of respondents did not back up their data.

5 Reasons to Backup Data Online

I have written many posts in the past regarding data backup. I regularly backup my data, especially the data I can’t replace, such as digital photos or videos. I have seen hard drives and entire computers

How to Prevent Spam in Your WordPress Blog

When someone first starts out using WordPress, and then their blog starts getting some traffic, one thing they may notice is the amount of comment spam that they receive. This is a problem that can cause panic among first-time bloggers. In a matter of days a blog can be spammed hundreds or even thousands of times.

The good news is that there are many plugins available for WordPress that can help decrease, or better yet, eliminate spam. While you don’t need to use all of them, there are two that I like to use to help control spam on Technically Easy.

Internet Explorer Issue Using Bad Behavior

One of the plugins that I use, and have used for sometime, is Bad Behavior. I like this plugin as it provides a first-line of defense against link spam. This plugin works by analyzing the delivery method of the spam, instead of just the content.

I have been very happy with how it has stopped hundreds of attempts to spam Technically Easy. Unfortunately, I had an issue with Bad Behavior preventing me from accessing Technically Easy from an Internet Explorer browser. I could easily access my blog from Firefox on the same machine, but I couldn’t using Internet Explorer. I decided to look into the problem, and here is how I solved it.
