Is 3D Gaming Worth the Hype?

From the cinema screen to interior design and even the catwalk, it seems you can’t go anywhere without having 3D thrust in your face, literally! With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that console manufacturers and game developers are falling over themselves to bring us the very latest in 3D gaming technology.

These days all three of the major console manufacturers, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are backing 3D, as are most developers. There’s now an interesting slate of 3D games available and several massive titles due for release later this year.

However, gaming doesn’t come cheap! With technology changing at such a fast pace, it can be hard to keep up. If you are trying to raise funds to get the very latest 3D games, it’s worth checking out second hand electronic stores on the high street or online where there are plenty of opportunities to get rid of 3DS games for cash.

How to Join the 3D Experience

3D has actually been used at the cinema since the 1950s, although in the early days it was relegated to B movies. Fast forward to 2009 and the Oscar winning Avatar helped to put 3D back on the map and paved the way for other 3D releases such as Toy Story 3, How to Train your Dragon and Monsters vs. Aliens.

If sitting in a cinema, wearing a pair of glasses is not for you, you can now have the same experience in the privacy of your home. Manufacturers including Sony, Panasonic and Samsung have all released 3D television sets enabling you to get the full 3D experience for home viewing and gaming.

3D Experience Consoles

As far as consoles are concerned there are several options. One of the most popular is the hand-held Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS was released back in 2012 and was the first device to display 3D images without the need for special glasses. If the 3D effect becomes too much you can simply turn it down, or turn it off completely.

The gaming giant also brings you titles from some of the most popular franchises of all time—from Mario and Zelda to Pokémon, Star Fox and many more, bought to life in glorious 3D.

Sony is also at the forefront of 3D gaming with the Playstation 3, which also features Blu Ray and is home to the latest version of racing simulator game, Gran Turismo. Sony also manufactures the Vista, their latest hand-held console. Another front runner in terms of 3D technology is Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

While 3D has always enhanced the big screen, it is relatively new to the gaming arena. However, 3D technology really does propel the gaming experience to a new dimension. The ability to perceive depth brings the game to life, making it a fully immersive and intuitive experience.

3D technology has stormed into the gaming platform, growing in leaps and bounds over the last decade, ever since the first ever 3D title, Batman: Arkham Asylum was released way back in 2009.
