3M™ ePrivacy Filter Software Review

We live in a world where it seems we can be seen anywhere at anytime. We also live in a world where bigger is better, especially when it comes to computer monitors. I personally have a 24-inch computer monitor, and at times have difficulty adjusting to a smaller screen.

One of the issues with using such a large monitor is that there is no longer any privacy. Everyone behind you can easily see what you are working on, even though it may be personal. 3M has come up with an innovative piece of software that can help solve the issue of anyone that stands behind you from reading your screen.

Staying Private with 3M ePrivacy Filter

As mentioned, one issue with using large computer screens is that anyone standing behind you see what you are working on with your computer. 3M has developed software that can help prevent over-the-shoulder onlookers from reading your work.

The 3M ePrivacy Filter Software uses your computer’s webcam and facial recognition software to determine if it is you looking at your monitor or someone else.

If the facial recognition software determines that it is you looking at your computer monitor, than the screen is revealed to you as you are an authorized user. If someone else attempts to look at your monitor, then the screen is blurred to protect thr information displayed on the screen.

What happens if you are authorized to view the contents of the screen, causing the screen to be revealed and then look away to talk to someone? In such a situation, the person you are talking to can then also read your screen.

The ePrivacy Filter Software will protect your information when you look away by blurring the screen automatically. This also goes for when you walk away from your computer, as well.

Another situation that ePrivacy Filter Software protects the data that is displayed on your screen is when someone quietly stands behind you. Using the webcam, the software will detect the person behind you and alert you with a popup of the person’s face.

Of course, this doesn’t necessary protect you if someone were to stand off the to side, out of the webcam’s field-of-view. In such a situation, you should also combine the software with the physical 3M™ Privacy Filter that provides true 180-degree visual privacy. I use such a filter at work and it works really well.
