Traffic Stats: June 2012

Technically Easy didn’t see anything too exciting with regards to traffic levels in June. The steady trend of visitors that has been seen in the past couple of months continue throughout last month as well.

While having steady traffic is great, especially with Google’s algorithm changes, I am continuously looking for ways that I can increase the number of monthly visitors. I am more focusing on diversifying my traffic sources, which seems to be a harder task for me at the moment.

Steady Traffic

As I mentioned above, June continued the steady traffic pattern throughout the entire month. One day the traffic goes a bit higher, and then next it would go a bit lower. The chart below shows the steady line of traffic throughout the month.

Traffic Stats - June 2012

As can be seen from the chart, there is a slight increase to the number of visitors compared to the previous year. While the gains aren’t as great as they were at the end of last year, they are still some nice gains. The table below shows the numbers between June 2012 and June 2011.

Metric June 2011 June 2012 Change
Visits 75,287 87,897 16.75%
Pageviews 103,557 111,168 7.35%

The above numbers shows that while the number of visitors increased by 16.75%, the total pageviews only increased by 7.35%. This means that the visitors are actually viewing less pages each visit. I will be looking to improve this going forward.

With regards to the number of visitors, this actually is an increase compared to May 2012, which is great. June has one less day than May, so having more visitors in less days means that the number of visitors increased slightly.

Traffic Sources

As usual, search engines comprised the vast majority of traffic to Technically Easy. Just over 88% of visitors to Technically Easy arrived by a search engine. While this is great, I am still looking at attempting to balance out my traffic sources to avoid so much reliance on one source.

Direct traffic was second, albeit a distant second, with just under 7% of traffic with referrals much farther behind at just under 5%. For the second straight month the campaigns source appeared in the list of traffic sources, and sent 17 visitors to Technically Easy.

Traffic Sources - June 2012

Overall, it wasn’t a bad month in terms of traffic, with a healthy increase in visitors form a year ago. Compared to the previous month, there is a nice increase also, despite June having one less day than May.

As always I am looking to increase the number of visitors to Technically Easy, even if it is a small increase.

    Hi,

This is a good amount of traffic and the increase in traffic is good. I don’t reach the 80.000 visitor monthly amount on neither of my sites. The traffic from search engines is quite big.
An interesting thing that you could add it can be the amount of money that you are making with this site and traffic.

For my blog, the posts that get the most organic traffic are the tutorial or “how to” posts. These posts usually end up being shared by others, so they quickly rose in the search results.

Wow that’s a huge search traffic percentage. Well at least that shows your SEO is working. You have that solid foundation so with a little luck referral links shouldn’t be too hard to build!

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for sharing your (June) website statistics with us; And the screenshots – not manipulative images drawn up in an excel sheet. And yes – I think most webmaster and SEO’s will agree that ranking in Google SERP’s (well – ranking good actually) is a lot harder than one might think wen reading posts and articles. With the recent (and vague descriptions) of the algorithms and the functions of the algorithms has made it a lot more “Challenging”. And with the recent focus on Negative SEO one normally never knows when your site has been hit – until it’s too late.

I’m not one to manipulate my traffic stat images – it is just too much work and no benefit. Ranking in Google SERP’s is hard, and can be frustrating also. With so much of my traffic coming from Google, I do fear that a future algorithm change will drop my traffic drastically, which is why I am looking to increase both direct and referral traffic numbers.

    Paul,

That’s still an impressive stats, but I know this issue. Ups and down in traffic make every webmasters frustated, especially with the Algo frequent changes.

I notice there are more than twice in 4 months Google changes the SERPs.

All the best though, your blog is great.

Thanks, John. With the frequent algo changes, it can be challenging to keep up and continue to get traffic from Google. I guess if you are conservative with how you manage your site/blog, you shouldn’t need to worry too much.
