There are many different marketing tips for photographers that you can employ to help spread your work through the Internet. Many popular, and not so popular photographers, have started web sites that showcase their talent. Most of the websites are setup in a gallery format that organizes their photos into different categories that show small versions of their works. Others may even sell some of their photographs directly through their website.
Here are some great tips for marketing any photography business.
Build a Following
As a photographer, you need to have a list of contacts with who you can share any worthy news. Whether it is a holiday sale, a gallery exhibition or a new project, your list can help you spread the word. Your contacts could be influential photographer friends, gallery owners, or current and past clients. Send a brief email with details about your news. Don’t forget to include a link to your site.
Build Brand Awareness
It is important that your brand is recognizable by people. Therefore, it is important to invest your money and time in aggressive brand awareness campaigns. First, you need to design a unique logo synonymous with your brand which can be used on your email signature, business cards and website. The logo should be used repeatedly in every place where you have an offline or online presence. Create ‘touch points’ which will give people an opportunity to interact more with your photography. Open an account with every major social network and use the different platforms to promote your brand. This approach has been very effective in promoting my blog which features istock photo discounts and thinkstock coupons.
Collaborate with Others in the Business
While building your brand, you should also consider collaborating and forming groups with other photographers in your niche. While maintaining your independence, you can take advantage of the group to gather more contacts and market your projects collectively. Collective and coordinated efforts can result in more new clients and image sales. You can host hold seminars together, host group shows, contribute to photography blogs and get invitations to lecture at photo schools. In the end, everyone wins.
Remind People of Your Existence
This is very vital. Some buyers might be interested in your initial email, but then keep it away for review later. However, it is likely that your email will get misplaced and the recipient will forget about the initial contact made. Therefore, it is important to maintain two different email lists, one for potential clients and one for former clients. When you are working on a new project, send an email to both lists. Make sure that the email is tailored to meet the needs of your buyers. This will increase the possibility of making a sale or getting hired.
Accentuate Your Strengths
As a photographer, you need to play your strength to your advantage. If you are involved in more than one niche, you might have a slight edge over other photographers. However, the best way of making an impression on buyers is by specializing. Invest your time in promoting your best work. If you have positioned yourself as a fashion photographer, your fashion photography should stand out prominently. When prospects visit your site, they should find it showcasing the same genre and style. For every marketing campaign, make sure you put your best foot forward.

I’d say images are quite important for websites or blogs, so knowing where and how to find them is very helpful. When you use an image properly in an article or whatever it is that you may be doing, it helps draw and keep the attention of the reader. Anyways, thanks for the useful tips.

Twitter is a remarkable social media platform for businesses. But it is it little confusing for the new beginners. As we know that If the people follow you, we may understood that they are look interesting, But make sure to follow them back and see what they’ve got to say about your site or what ever it may be.
I believe I fall into the category of those unpopular photographers! But that’s okay! I’m not “marketing” myself at the moment. It’s tough to do when you have an unrelated full time job.

The online search for the Duplication and Replication process is the best one. Many companies are offering the services just need to check them. The most suitable one should be chosen.

I love using social media to share my work which gets seen by thousands. The real hard part is turning views into clients. Offline marketing by meeting people is the best way IMHO to generate lead and work.
“Accentuate Your Strengths” – is the best advice in my view. At the same time you need to know your weakness also to make sure those are being taken care of.
I’ve found word-of-mouth to be so important to my photography business which is commercial photography. Fostering this and building contacts has seen the biggest impacts on my business.
Now-a-days the young generation are turning their career in photography. They buy expensive cameras and run here and there for nice scenery. But the main thing they are unaware is the marketing of photography. They work hard but don’t get proper value of their work. I think your article will help the young generation photographer to make a better career. Thanks for sharing.

Great tips. Usually, the side-job photographers are very dependent on their close personal network. I think most of their business results from their connections.

These are helpful tips. Starting a photography business and maintaining it is really quite challenging. Reminding People of you Existence, this is my favorite part of this blog because most photographers tend to forget this. Thank you for reminding us! This is a very helpful article
I truly appreciate all the ideas in here, I would like to learn to capture better pictures. Many thanks for sharing this info with us.
Many artists have really nice business cards, but there are thousands and thousands that don’t even have one. I have printed a few pictures from my portfolio on my business cards and every time it turns out to be a long ceremony of business card exchange. There are a few really good things about it – people see my portfolio one more time (and I have an extra possibility to talk about this or that picture, thus turning the conversation into more emotional mode).
Just added this blog to my favorites. I enjoy reading your blogs and hope you keep them coming!
I think simply investing as much time as possible into building a following is the way to go. Make sure you stay productive; don’t simply produce something and then wait around for it to get attention, the more content you create the more chance there is of people noticing it.
Good point! Thanks for sharing.
I think that setting up a blog is a good idea. People (and search engines) love blog with a new content. Some decide to set up a blog with their own name everywhere, like domain, titles, headings. I decided to go with mixture of keyword and brandable domain.
Nice post. My father has two big photography companies and My neighbour Mrs. Ketty is the teaching about photography. She is very good teacher.

Nice to help photographers with marketing, as theres a lot of competition in the photography business, have not really seen many help sites offering this type of article, good idea.
There is a lot of competition in the photography business, and many good photographers probably don’t know how to properly market themselves.
