There are times when you feel that your creativity has diminished to a point where you cannot write a good article anymore. It happens to everyone, do not worry. It is a universal law for bloggers but it does not mean you have to put up with it. You can write great content and never have to go through a dry spell again. Here is how:

Create a Calendar of Articles

Some days are just more productive than the others. This does not mean though that you have to pour out your creativity all at once. Spread out your creative drive into different days. In fact, you could use your best writing days to map out the week ahead. It is a great time to schedule what you are going to write for the next seven days. Write all the titles and article prospects that pop out of your head. Later on, practice the habit of creating a weekly planner for your articles. This will keep you from getting stuck in the middle of the week without anything to write.

Theme it With the Holidays

Most likely, you have been asked many times before by your teacher to write how you spent your Christmas vacation. Holiday-themed writing has been there forever but it has not lost its appeal. You can always try writing about a holiday theme that suits the niche of your blog.

Search For Interesting News

As blogger, information is your best asset. And in case you do not know it yet, online news is one of the deepest information well you can get buckets of content from. Be on the alert of news keywords that are relevant to your niche. Find a way to discuss them in 450 words and that is already a new blog entry for you.

Don’t be Afraid to Ask For Help

If you are starting out and want a constant flow of quality articles, then do not hesitate to get someone to write for you. Hire writers online, let them know what you expect of them, and get the articles from them. If your blog is already doing fairly well, you can benefit from its popularity by encouraging guest writing. Start-up bloggers who can a good boost can get it from your site by writing for you and having their page linked to your site.

Take a timeout

Obviously, you do not want to be left behind in the grueling race for search engine ranking. But the best way you can rebound from a writing slump and come up with a fresh content is to take a little time off. Just give yourself enough time to rest but not too much that you would not want to go back anymore.

  1. Hi Suzzane!

I find content on a daily basis simply by engaging with my Twitter and FB pals & looking at their tweets and status messages. I also get Google alerts for certain keywords which also help in finding topics.

Whenever I find a topic, I’ll create a title for it and then go into WordPress and save a draft of it, so I remember the topic and can write about it later.

    Awesome article!

  2. Good tips Suzzane, as oyu say this happens to every blogger sometimes!

Love the idea to theme your content with the holidays. This works to ‘surf the mood’ of your readers out there and is a great way to get started if you don’t have any inspiration.

  3. Thanks for the wonderful comments. As writers we all know how difficult coming up with a single post is. Especially writing quality content, day in and day out. Glad to be of help.

  4. I think accepting guest posts is a good way to generate content. It’s a tricky balance because when the content is not yours you always seems to find some fault with it.

    • True that. I filter the guest posts quite heavily and if they are not of at least some degree of quality, I normally reject them

Having guest writers are good because you can take a break but your blog is still delivering fresh contents :)

  6. “fresh content quality” is more likely to rank better with search engines. Nor can you just add new pages on anything constantly and think that gives you a freshness boost. So fresh quality content really matters a lot.

    Thanks for Sharing.

  7. Actually I m using all the tips which are mentioned here except the one for asking for help. Gonna try this too and yeah m not afraid of it. Anyway nice tips here

  10. I guess writing is similar to cooking a dish. When you love cooking as much as writing coming up with a new post is like discovering a new dish. Never fail to surprise yourself and you will always find inspiration for new topics.

  11. I think that reading the news is a great way to get inspiration for blog posts. If you keep an eye out for stories related to your niche, there’s sure to be something there that you have some unique insights about. And by writing very specifically about these current issues, you’ll often score some nice bursts of search engine traffic as well.

  12. Hi Matt, I definitely agree about using the latest new stories for topics. These type of topics would be very interesting for the people on your niche and give you the chance to be one of the few sources of information.

  13. Hey Suzzane,

I have found that whenever I need to get some inspiration for writing articles I just stop trying to get creative at my workplace and go out for a run or take advantage of a quick trip (even if it’s just a quick one or two day trip).

While being on the city, my best ideas come at the most random times, like taking a shower, walking somewhere or just when I’m about to go to sleep! lol

Sounds a bit weird but that’s how my mind works.

The other thing that helps me a lot is that my blog is super brand new, so I still have a LOT to write about, I just wonder what the top “dawgs” do to overcome this.

I know they allow guest posting or maybe even do paid articles to not worry about this but I do wonder what they actually do so THEY write articles when everything has been said and done already.

  14. Great tips, Paul. I use OneNote to jot down all the topics I can thinks of, and either write about them myself or assign them to guest posters.

  16. Writers write. Saying you’ve run out of content is simply an excuse; you ‘never’ run out of content. Stick a pen to paper and write about the first thing that comes into your head. Keep doing this for long enough and you’ll produce something worth while. That’s what being a writer is.
