Quite often, social media is seen as just another method of communicating. Though it is, there is so much more to it. Social media can be used to promote your personal brand or your company, thus fast-tracking your results. It breaks down communication barriers and enables professional and personal interaction, collaboration and engagement. Unlike traditional media, social media enables you to promote your opinions and ideas faster and more easily to large audiences.

The following are some tips which can help you enhance your digital influence.
Understand Your Audience
What are their needs? What are they trying to accomplish? Asking these questions about your audience will enable you to offer solutions to their problems. Provide helpful resources such as eBooks which offer answers and guidance, or online video tutorials which offer instructions on how to carry out a particular task. Besides being on your site or blog, these resources could also be promoted on Facebook and Twitter.
Master a Niche
It is important to master and become an authority in a specific niche. With time, people around you will recognize your expertise in that particular subject. You can then begin offering courses to educate others on your niche. This is a technique I have used frequently in my diet blog which features weight watchers coupons and ediet discounts.
Integrate Social Media With Other Media
Think of innovative ways of integrating social media with other offline and online media. For instance, you could integrate social media with email to direct traffic to your Facebook page or blog.
Engage on Multiple Networks
Engaging in multiple networks helps you show different sides of your business or yourself. This in turn presents more opportunities for connection since everyone hears and sees information in various ways.
Publish your content on multiple networks, text, video, images, podcasts and slideshare. However, make sure you target networks which will give you the best leverage for your intended audience.
Get Personal
Open up and let people know your story and how you got to where you are now. You could simply narrate your journey or allow someone to interview you, and then post on your Facebook page or your blog.
Network With Influencers
Interact with other influencers and learn as much as possible from them. You could meet them offline or connect with them online. Don’t hesitate to request for an online or face-to-face interview. You could record the video and promote it in your various social networks. The most important thing is to establish a long term connection that is authentic and real.

Most people fail at getting personal, they’re afraid or maybe too used of hiding behind a username on the internet. They get a blog and fail to change. Problem is readers need to know they’re reading and talking to a real and normal person, someone just like them.

I think many people are afraid of providing too much information about them self. With identity theft so rampant, it is understandable. What a blogger needs to do is add some of the personality into their posts. That way they are showing a bit about them self without giving away too much personal information.

I do agree with Amit. There are in fact a lot of bloggers out there who doesn’t what to show off who they really are by getting personal. It’s one good way of building and brand, and these guys are literally just wasting such opportunity.

I guess it is hard to get personal online for many people, mainly because you aren’t face-to-face with someone. It takes time to learn to do so online, and those that are, have been doing so for many years.

You’re right with it Paul. Some people are afraid to get personal online because of some factors that they would remain to keep their anonymity on the web. However, when weighed between these two things, it would still better to get personal though

People do not like to disclose their online identity because of many reasons. Security problem is one of them I guess. Though it is possible to interact with other bloggers personally, even if full information is not disclosed.

I agree that it is possible to interact with other bloggers personally, even without too much information. When divulging information online, you will need to be comfortable with the amount of info you are providing. If you don’t feel comfortable, you should provide it.
