After some careful thought I decided to convert Technically Easy from a Blogger blog to a WordPress blog. I had been mulling this conversion over for some time, but have put off doing it. I have liked using Blogger because of the ease of its use. Now i think it is time for me to move to a different platform.
The conversion will not take place immediately, but over a period of time. Until the conversion is complete, Technically Easy will still be housed at Blogger. I will elaborate more on my thoughts regarding the conversion in this post.
Why I Decided to Convert to WordPress?

People that have met me know that I am a technical person. I have a strong development background, which includes managing databases. I have developed both Windows and Web applications, and continue to do so.
For the past little while my technical drive has been kept in check with Technically Easy being housed on Blogger. Over the last month I hve had more of a desire to have more control over the coding aspect of my blog. Last week I decided to give into my urge to code and signed up for a host and began to create my WordPress version of Technically Easy.
I have been learning how a WordPress blog is constructed and about various aspects, such as plugins, about WordPress. I have downloaded and slightly modified a template, and have set up some static pages.
There are still some things that need to be completed before I move from Blogger to WordPress, which should be completed in the coming week or weeks. Until then I have decided to allow you to view what I have so far, and look forward to your feedback on how the WordPress blog is coming along.
To access my new WordPress blog, simply navigate your browser to technicallyeasy.net.
Future of Blogger Posts
I have written many Blogger related posts on Technically Easy, and they have become some of my most commented and discussed posts. Moving Technically Easy to WordPress will not prevent me from writing more Blogger posts in the future. I will continue to use my Blogger account, and will still answer any questions you may have regarding the platform.
In addition to Blogger posts, I will, hopefully, also be providing posts related to WordPress. I will dive into the world of PHP and learn its syntax and how to access the database in an effort to construct my own code. I will share any knowledge that I may gain from this.
I am hoping to make the conversion as painless as possible for my visitors, to the point where it will only look like a template change. There may a few issues that will arise, however, I am happy to finally be moving to the WordPress platform.

I just started a blog and many people say that they prefer WP.
Is just because of the plugins or over all eye candy ?

Good choice. I’m sure you’ll be very happy using WordPress. It’s so more extensible than Blogger.

@GM: One of WordPress’ strength is the various plugins. Another is the amount of customization you can do with your blog. WordPress has very few limits in that department. For those that like an easy to setup blog, then Blogger is great for that.
@Nathan: I’m not sure which book I’ll get. I usually learn by doing, but I’m thinking of buying a book. I’ll let you know which one.

Just beware, if you are going to be hosted by WordPress (not the same thing as being self hosted and installing wordpress), you will not be able to utilize Entrecard.

Good choice! My first blog was with blogger then I discovered WordPress and I fell in love with the flexibility when it comes with customizations, themes and plug-ins.

I guess you will have to change the name of your blog. WP is not technically easy.

I have a blogger blog, and I have thought of moving to WP more than once. But its simply too difficult, because all the links to my blog point to blogspot url.
The problem with blogger is that you cannot post in pages.

How exactly are you handling transferring posts from your old blogger blog to wordpress (images & all)? You aren’t copying them over manually, are you?
on August 27, 2008 at 12:37 am
app,
no copying. wordpress will going to ask your blogger’s username and password and it will automatically transfer all your post.
lol! sorry TE, I can’t help to answer the question
on August 27, 2008 at 8:38 am
@app: WordPress has an Import feature that automatically moves over your posts and comments from Blogger.
@manilenya: No problem.

Paul — I think you’ll enjoy WordPress. You’ve done amazing things with Blogger, but you’ll be able to do so much more with WordPress.
Good luck!

Thanks. I have learned a lot through WordPress, and now find it as easy as blogger. Once you know how WordPress works, you can do almost anything possible.
