When you look at all the people who work online and have websites, generally they will fall into only a few demographics. They tend to be young people, mostly male, who aren’t overly happy in their jobs and are trying to get out, or younger still who are trying to ‘make it’ online before they have to ever go into the world of work. These are the people who see working online as a chance to make their dreams happen – to make some money, maybe to get some fame and hopefully impress some girls/guys along the way too.
The good news is that if you know what you’re doing then this really is a way to achieve those things and there are plenty of examples of people who have – I’m not saying that you should stop chasing the dream if that describes you, rather what I’m doing is calling other people to join in.
Specifically I’m talking about the people who have already ‘made it’ – the celebrities, the wealthy business men and women and the people who were just fortunate enough to have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Why? Because those groups are perfectly poised to literally take over the web and to make it big time and if they aren’t acting on that ability then they’re currently squandering a position that most of us other webmasters would give our left leg to be in. Allow me to explain…
Websites for Famous People
Websites are all about exposure and audiences, they’re all about how many people you can reach and how many eyeballs you can get for your product or for your affiliates’/advertisers’ products.
This is why I don’t understand how so many famous people can just ignore the web as a money making venture. You’ve got a Twitter account with a billion followers? Then if you made a website and put some AdSense on it you could make a fortune in no time at all.
Websites for Rich People
And okay so let’s say that you don’t have quite the pull of Justin Bieber – that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from simply the time and resources that being wealthy will afford you. If you are wealthy enough to not work for two weeks… well imagine how much content you could create and how many links you could buy in that time. Again, in almost no time at all you could be looking at a website that would be more powerful than others that have been around for a long time and as the profits increased, soon it would be paying for itself.
What’s All This Mean for You?
Okay, so this was merely intended to be something of a thought provoking article – if you’re not rich then you’re not suddenly going to become rich and famous overnight so it’s not much use to you. However you can benefit from this little thought experiment in some other ways.
First of all, make sure to keep in the back of your mind just how useful any kind of exposure is, and in other words: make sure that you’re quick to capitalize on it if you do get it. When a band goes on XFactor and doesn’t get through – if they just used the time on television to promote a website (or even just had a catchy name with an easily searchable site) they could still get a lot more success from the experience. Being interviewed for something? In your local paper? Then push your website hard.
Likewise you can always consider getting help from people who do have more time, resources or power. Approach someone to invest in some links and make a deal with them that they can’t refuse and you could suddenly gain a lot of exposure. Write something that might be of interest to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tweet it to him and a re-tweet could earn you thousands of hits in minutes.
And then when it all works out you will be rich and you will have the exposure… at which point it becomes a virtuous cycle ending with global domination…
