Last month seemed like a turning point in terms of traffic for Technically Easy. Throughout the month I noticed that traffic was higher than it had been in previous months, especially compared to the beginning of this year. By the end of the month, the total number of visitors had once again reached 100,000 for the month.
This is a good sign as Technically Easy hasn’t received 100,000 visitors for the month since January, and since that time the total visitors each month had dropped below 90,000. I’m hoping that this is a sign of better traffic going forward.
Reaching 100,000 Visitors – Finally
At the end of last year I set out on a goal to reach 200,000 visitors a month by the end of this year. Unfortunately, after doing well at the end of 2011, 2012 started out in a bad way. January ended with over 100,000 visitors, but then the numbers dropped to below 90,000 for the next several months.
Hitting 100,000 visitors a month seemed like a tough task, let alone getting to my goal of 200,000 visitors. I haven’t been able to pin down the cause of this issue, as it could be attributed to being a technology blog, or a Google algorithm change. Anyway, it looks like things are starting to look better.
July started strong in terms of traffic, and remained that way throughout the month. The graph below shows the traffic comparison between July 2011 and July 2012.
As you can see in the graph the month ended on a strong note, which will hopefully carry over into this month. Year-over-year say a nice increase in visitors with a much smaller increase in pageviews. The table below shows the year-over-year comparison.

I am hoping to continue with the year-over-year increase for this month as well, especially with the strong finish to July.
Traffic Sources
Once again, search engines topped Technically Easy’s traffic sources by a wide margin with almost 89% of visitors arriving by a search engine. The number of visitors from search engines was 89,545, which was more than total visitors for previous months.
A continue to try to attract both direct and referral visitors with each generating 6.31% and 4.89% of visitors, respectively. These numbers remained fairly unchanged compared to the previous months, so I’ll continue to wage that battle.
Overall, I am pleased with reaching 100,000 monthly visits to Technically Easy, and feel that I have finally turned a corner with regards to traffic. I anxious to see how the August traffic numbers will look, but hopefully I can continue the traffic trend throughout this month.
