Sony has announced the arrival of the BDP-S790 blu-ray player. This will be considered their flagship product this year, and will be available for pre-order on April 22nd, and released on May 8th. There are a few interesting features of the BDP-S790, but whether it will be worth the price remains to be seen.
The Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player
The BDP-S790 blu-ray player will have a dual-core processor for faster response, as well as the ability to play 3D movies. As with all blu-ray players on the market, it will include WiFi connection that provides access to the Sony Entertainment Network.
It is nice to see the redesigned user-interface has been redesigned, especially since it has been the bane of previous Sony blu-ray owners. The new interface began appearing in the BDP-S390 and the BDP-S590, and should also be implemented in the BDP-S790.
The Sony BDP-S790 is similar to the BDP-S390 and the BDP-S590, with the biggest difference being that the BDP-S790 includes 4K-upscaling, although for most people this one really have any impact. This technology provides the ability to upscale a full HD movie, or standard definition movie, to 4K HD.
With the popularity of social networks, many devices have been including access to popular social networks, with blu-ray players not being an exception. The BDP-S790 blu-ray player includes the ability to access Socialize, Twitter, and Facebook. I’m not sure how many people would actually access their social networks through the blu-ray player, but the option is available.
The Sony BDP-S790 blu-ray player is a step up from the BDP-S590, but it will be up to the consumer to determine if the price increase, and the additional features, such as the 4K-upscaling, is worth the difference.
