I recently bought the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones so I could sleep next to my wife when she watches TV late a night. I was looking for a set of wireless headphones that weren’t too expensive, but still had decent sound quality. After performing some quick research, I eventually decided on the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones.
While wireless headphones have been available for years, I hadn’t owned any before purchasing these headphones. I didn’t know what to expect in terms of quality so I couldn’t compare the Sennheiser RS120 to other headphones. Because of this the review is based solely on what I think about the Sennheiser RS120 without any comparison to a previous product.
What’s Included with the Sennheiser RS120 Wireless Headphones?
The Sennheiser RS120 headphones are made for those who listen to music or watch TV at home and don’t want to disturb others. They aren’t high-end headphones, so the audiophiles may be disappointed with these.
The items that are included with the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones allow you to easily connect the headphones to a music player or TV. The following items are included:
- Headphones.
- Transmitter/charger.
- Transmitter power cord.
- NiMH AAA batteries.
- Audio connector adapter.
- Quick install guide.
Using the Sennheiser RS120 Wireless Headphones
The Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones were really easy to use. The transmitter also acts as the headphone charger, so I basically plugged the transmitter into a power source.
Next, I installed the provided rechargeable batteries into the headphones. The instructions that came with the headset weren’t detailed, so it took a few minutes to figure out how the batteries are inserted into the headphones. They are placed beneath the earpiece.
Once the batteries are inserted, I placed the headphones on the charger to let the batteries fully charge. A red light on the front of the transmitter lit up once the Sennheiser RS120 headphones were in the correct position for charging.
It did take some maneuvering to correctly place the headphones on the charge so they would charge. A minor bump in any direction, and the Sennheiser RS120 headphones would stop charging.
Once the headphones were fully charge, I plugged the transmitter into the TV and turned on the headphones (the on/off switch is located on the side of the earpiece). I turned the tuning dial until I picked up the transmission from the transmitter.
If I couldn’t pick up a transmission, I changed the channel on the transmitter and then tried the tuning dial again. Eventually, I did pick up the transmitter, but at times it required a channel and tuner change.
My Immpressions of the Sennheiser RS120
I found the headphones to be really lightweight, so they won’t feel heavy if I, or my wife, is watching a long movie. I did find that at times the transmitter would lose sound connection from the TV, and I would have to either adjust the audio cable or move the transmitter. It may just be a case of the audio connector losing connection in the TV.
The headphones were rather quiet, which isn’t a bad thing if someone is sleeping next to you. I had to turn up the volume a bit to have a good sound coming from the earpieces.
The sound quality was pretty good for headphones that aren’t expensive. I could hear the sounds from the TV very clearly, and they even sounded better than the TV speakers.
Overall, the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones are good headphones. They aren’t the best wireless headphones by any stretch of the imagination, but they are good if you are only looking for simple, stereo sound providing headphones.
