Up until this point in my review writing campaign the Web sites that I have reviews have been various types of blogs. For this week’s review I have the opportunity to review a non-blog Web site, which is a nice change.
The focus of this week’s Web site is on water garden’s, what they are, how to create them, and other important information. After visiting this site I can easily tell this is on well planned, thought out and maintained Web site.
Web Site: Water Garden Guide
Description: Advice for home owners wanting to create a water garden in their own backyard.
Design
The design of Water Garden Guide is very simple. There is a navigational bar on the left and the content on the right. The width of page is small enough where a visitor with an 800×600 resolution could easily be able to read the pages without scrolling to the left or right.
The left navigational menu is created suing images with a rollover effect. The dark background chosen for the buttons and the white lettering makes it easy to read. There is one issue with the “Container Ponds” item as it becomes black and hard to read when the mouse is hovering over it. Other than that, the items are easy to read.
The font’s chosen for the titles and actual content are easy to read. This is because the font sizes are nice and large, and are a dark colour on a white background. All pages have a similar look and feel that provides a nice uniform feel to the entire Web site.
The author has provided some nice text links at the bottom of each page to help with the navigation around the site.
One of the best features I like about the site is actually a missing component: ads. Many sites bombard a visitor with ads that can take away from navigating a Web site. Water Garden Guide doesn’t have many, if any, ads placed on any of the pages, which is a nice change for sure.
The design and layout of Water Garden Guide is simple, and well done. Navigation and finding information on the site is very easy to do.
Focus
The focus of Water Garden Guide is on creating ponds in your gardens. From the name of the Web site, to each individual page, the focus of the site is very clear to a visitor.
The author has nicely provided much information on water gardens, and separates the content into many different categories, but always maintains the focus.
Content
One of the strongest assets of any Web site or blog is definitely the content, and the content on Water Garden Guide is no exception.
The content is easy read and contains very few spelling and grammar mistakes. The well-written content is a testament to the hard work the author has put into the Web site.
Many, if not all, of the pages also include at least on image that closely matches what the content on the page is about. The images have no apparent JPEG artefacts and are very clear and sharp. I remember meeting the author on one of the forums in which she mentioned that she took the pictures herself, which shows her dedication and passions for the site.
Spelling and Grammar
The is very little spelling and grammar mistakes within the content of the Web site. Considering the amount of content on the site, this shows the hard work the author has put into the content to remove such errors.
Overall
The Water Garden Guide Web site is definitely a well designed, planned and written site. The design is very simple, and can easily be viewed with a resolution of 800×600 and higher. The font and sizes chosen for the content, as well as the little spelling and grammar mistakes make it very easy to read and understand. If you are planning to create a water garden at home then you should definitely check out Water Garden Guide.
