The electronic gaming industry is huge with many games earning as much as blockbuster Hollywood movies. The industry brings in billions of dollars, which at times is more than the movie industry. There are many fans of electronic games, for which I am one, so it is by no coincidence that there are many blogs dedicated to this topic.
This week I look at the first gaming focused blog, since I started writing free reviews, called Insight on a Gamer.

Design 
There are many web sites that are geared towards the gaming industry, and most of them contain a lot of high-tech graphics. This blog by comparison, is more of a simple design with no graphics.
The actual template used is a standard Blogger template, with the content on the left and a navigational sidebar on the right. The background is completely black with the colours of the fonts being white for the content and a light blue for links. The headings are a light gray, which may make it hard to read for some.
The sidebar contains many links including lists of upcoming games for various gaming platforms. This is nice, however, the lists are long which pushes the navigational links further down the page. I think the lists should be below all the navigation.
The one thing I did enjoy about this blog is the lack of advertising. I don’t mind if authors include advertising (Technically Easy has advertising), but many author’s go overboard and include advertising in every empty space on the blog. The author has chosen not to use advertising, which is a nice change.
I think if the author creates a unique template and changes the black background, this blog would be much better with the design.
Focus 
The focus of this blog is on gaming, and this blog definitely focuses on gaming. From the topics of the posts to the lists and navigation links in the sidebar, a visitor will figure out the topic of this blog.
Content 
The content of the blog is nicely done with the author talking about various games on different gaming platforms. With each post, the author has included a screenshot of the game so visitors will know what to expect.
The one negative point towards the screenshots is the size. Unfortunately, the author has chosen not to physically reduce the size of the image, but rather let the browser do it. Doing that doesn’t reduce the actual size, but rather just displays them smaller, so the images are rather large and could take some time to download. In the future, it would be better if the author physically reduced the size in an image editor before displaying them on the blog.
For certain games, the author has also included videos of the game’s trailer, in addition to the screenshot, which is a nice added feature.
For the most part it appears the posts are published an a frequent basis (several times a week), but then you have a time such as the last post, which is published a month after the previous post. Publishing on a regular basis will help keep your readers coming back for more.
Spelling and Grammar
There are a few spelling and grammar mistakes, that can easily be corrected. The mistakes, however, don’t subtract from the readability of the blog since they are usually simple mistakes, such as forgetting a letter in a word.
Overall
Insight on a Gamer has potentional to be a great blog, if the author concentrated on making regular posts and designed a new custom template. Adding videos to the post is a nice touch, but the author should look into shrinking down the screenshots.
Overall the author does keep on top of the various upcoming games and the systems, which is a great plus to those who enjoy games.
