For the ordinary folk who doesn’t know what a Hadoop is, it is primarily used by engineers who use data to build products. And, Teradata is primarily used by eBay’s finance team to understand eBay’s business!
eBay has 300 million items for sale and over 1 billion products accessible at any time! These include the items that are no longer for sale but are still on the site for the customers who want to do price research.
eBay processes 250 million queries each day! So if you thought your e-mail box was full, think about the people at eBay! Those inquiries also become many billions of queries behind the scenes!
And lastly, eBay has 100 million active users. In comparison to Facebook its quite low as Facebook has 1.06 billion active users and very high compared to Amazon Prime which has 10 million active users.
