ACEHearing: Smart Phone Users to Receive Hearing Help

Ximplar and the Chinese University of Hong Kong cooperated with a team of throat, ear and nose experts that specialize in audiology to develop a new app that could very well change the world. Set for an early 2012 release, ACEHearing is coming to smart phones around the globe.

Having their efforts rewarded by being a nominee in last year’s Asian Innovation Award, this new smart phone app takes a problem that near 40% of the globe deals with every single day, and that is some form of hearing loss.

Often times one’s hearing loss is not enough to require a hearing aid, but it is enough to impact your everyday life. As a result of this, CUHK and Ximplar sought a solution. The final product, a firmware, has been deemed ACEHearing. Its job as an application will be to transform smart phones and other everyday devices into a system that can enhance the user’s hearing.

While they hope to bring this device to smart phones at first, it is expected to hopefully one day also be included on MP3 players, telephone switchboards, Ipads and computers and the idea could even possibly be expanded to televisions as well.

Upon the download and installation of ACEHearing, the user takes a five minute hearing test. This test has already been confirmed to be as accurate as a professional test administered by an audiologist. When the test is completed, the device then analyzes your results and proceeds to not simply make everything on the phone louder for clarity, but instead, it calibrates the phone’s settings to fill in the gaps from the sound spectrum of those areas. It is highly targeting only the areas of hearing that causes the user a problem.

Ximplar has already stated that they do not wish for this to replace hearing aids Cincinnati business sets, or hearing aids in general, but that their new app should work side by side a hearing aid to provide some relief and even allow a user to not have to have an aid in when on the phone making a call. This revolutionary invention will be hitting smart phones within the early parts of the year, and will be sure to make an impact.
