For many, iPhone is synonymous with smartphone. Recently, the Android has begun to enjoy a surge of popularity, and developers are constantly working on Android-friendly apps. If you don’t already own a smartphone and are having a hard time choosing which to buy, here are a few tips that should help you decide.
You should buy an iPhone if…
- You like apps. Apple has roughly three times as many apps as Android, and developers add more each day. While there are still plenty of useful apps for Droid users, true app addicts will appreciate the diversity and quality of Apple’s apps. iPhone users converting to Android may become especially frustrated if they can’t use the same apps they know and love from their iPhone.
- You want a consistent design. All iPhones are built to be essentially the same size and shape, making them consistent from one model to the next; Android phones can vary tremendously. Also, new iPhones routinely come out once a year, so it’s easier to plan their release and know your new phone won’t be outdated within a few weeks.
- You are loyal to Apple. Mac users have always been vocal about their preference, and that love of Apple products certainly transfers to loyalty to iPhones. There’s good reason for some to be so loyal: Apple is well-known for quality engineering, innovative technology, and excellent customer service. For many, that’s enough reason to support the company.
You should buy an Android if…
- You want to have more control over your hardware. iPhones can only be repaired by Apple personnel, and any other activity can void the warranty. If you have an Android phone, you have much more flexibility regarding replacing batteries, installing apps, and using tech support from your service provider instead of from a third-party company.
- You want to be able to use any phone carrier. iPhone is only available through AT&T and Verizon, whereas the Android can be used with nearly any cell phone provider. Additionally, Android is part of the 4G network, offering greater speed than is available on iPhone.
- You want more variety. While iPhones are consistent, Droid phones come in a variety of models, each with unique sizes and options. You have more customization options for the hardware on your phone, and the OS is more flexible.
