Ways to Recycle Your Gadgets and Gizmos

With all of the new tech gadgets emerging every day, you probably want to get your hands on the latest and greatest products. If you frequently do this, you undoubtedly have many old gadgets and gizmos cluttering up your home.

While it’s not terrible to keep them on hand for emergency use or to give to a friend or family member to use, the best thing you can do is recycle your gadgets. Old tech gadgets tend to contain components that can be potentially harmful, such as old batteries that can leak. Knowing all the ways you can go about recycling is important, so below are a few tips.

If there are any electronics stores in your area, make a trip to one of them. Stores such as Best Buy and Staples will gladly accept your old tech gadgets for recycling. They will take items that are in good condition that work to full capacity as well as those that no longer function. Many stores will also accept your old cell phones for recycling. Even small mom and pop stores occasionally have such recycling programs.

Another way to recycle your old gadgets and gizmos is to donate them to charity. There are many nonprofit organizations that collect unwanted items and donate them to economically disadvantaged individuals or even to troops overseas.

Of course, if you prefer to get money back for your old tech gadgets, you can look into recycling them with certain websites that pay you for your donations. MaxBack.com allows you to check how much you can get for anything you decide to part with. It is easy to use. You log on at the site and then enter information about the gadget you want to recycle. It asks you what sort of condition the device is in and offers you a quote on how much money you can expect for it.

In addition, MaxBack.com also donates a certain amount of money to a local school or nonprofit organization based on your item. You will be sent a box to send them your gadget, and you can actually trade your old tech products for a new item as you earn points on your account.

Other websites you may want to consider when you want cash back for recycling your gadgets and gizmos are YouRenew.com, gazelle.com and buymytronics.com. YouRenew is extremely easy and user friendly and allows you to type in the name of your device, enter information about its condition and other aspects and then you will see how much you can get for it.

You also get to choose an organization with which to recycle the device. Buymytronics.com will allow you to choose your gadget and then receive a quote for money you can get back for it. Gazelle, however, will not make an offer until the tech device is actually with them so that they can assess it. If accepted, you will receive payment via check, PayPal deposit or Amazon gift card.

Keeping all of these things in mind, you should always research the best option for you when you want to recycle your old tech devices. You will probably feel better in knowing they are going for charity, but it is always nice to receive money back for your old purchases as well.

Thanks for the informative share, recycling our gadgets is also a good way to protect the environment from the harmful effects of battery packs leaking into our water ways and now that Christmas is just around the corner, making a few bucks out of our old gadgets is very much welcome :)

I haven’t done a gadget recycling before not even once. But have seen so many stores who provide this facility for every kind of gadget one wants. Here in India Nokia has started a campaign long time ago and one can recycle their cell phones and take back new in return.I guess recycling will make them last longer and it is a good strategy to make things work better.

Another great way to recycle things is by giving your used computer to schools. Many of them in poorer districts are always looking for computers and if you have a good used computer that you don’t need cash for, you can just call a school around you to see how you can contribute. Thank you for the post. I didn’t know about MaxBack!
