It’s interesting that you should write about this as I’m looking into something like this too. We get power outages and “brown outs” a lot here in the mountains of California and the last one burned out my computers power supply. I was lucky, as it could have been much worse.

  You will definitely benefit from a UPS, especially if you lost a power supply because of the power. A UPS will protect your computer from such issues.

Thanks for sharing this – I came across your article at a timely moment as I’m in the process of configuring a few of these UPS units for workstations in a corporate environment.
Did you ever manage to connect the UPS to the computer using the dataport ?

  Yes I did. I have it plugged in all the time now. It works without any problems and contains several settings that I can change.
