How to Display Recent Post Titles in Blogger

By Paul | May 16, 2008

Most blogs display the last few posts on the home page, and Technically Easy is no exception. I like to display the last five posts that I have written so that visitors have a choice. If a visitor doesn’t visit the home page, but rather is redirected to a post, I wanted to display the last five posts in the sidebar.

For those with Blogger blogs, it is very easy to display the last few posts you have published to your blog.

The Feed Widget

There are several widgets that you can add to your blog. One of the widgets is called “Feed”, which simply retrieves and displays the last few posts from an RSS feed. This is the one we will be using to display the last few posts of your blog.

The following steps walk you through how to do this:

  1. Log into Blogger and then click the Layout link for the blog you want to change. You should now see the template layout for the blog.
  2. Click the Add a Page Element in the location you want to include the recent post list. Blogger’s Choose a New Page Element window opens.
  3. Scroll through the list of widgets until you find Feed. Click the Add to Blog button.
  4. In the new window, enter the URL of your blog’s feed.
  5. Click Continue to move to the next step.
  6. In the next window you are now prompted to configure what the widget will look like. Enter a title, and select the number of posts you want to show. You can see your changes in the preview.
  7. When you are done, click the Save Changes button. The feed widget should now be added to your blog.

You can also use this widget to display the most recent posts for other blogs, provided you know the blog’s feed URL.

Summary

Many author’s provide a small list of the most recent posts to visitors to their blog. This post provided step-by-step instructions to displaying the most recent posts for your blog in a widget. You can also use the widget to display the most recent posts for other blogs as well.
