Focus on Relevant Content

SEO advice on the internet is generally not helpful in any way whatsoever. Websites such as SEOMoz claim to be experts at boosting sites and providing assistance and advice for others, but most of their advice is of little help, if not worthless altogether. Of course them repeating the phrase, “Black hat SEO is not good” is correct, but if anyone on the internet have not figured that out by now, they are set to fail and should fail.

Facts being correct are not helpful if they are not easily applicable. These sites say such things as, “Build good backlinks” but barely if even at all explain how to do so.

Focus on Relevant Content

It is near impossible to get .edu and .gov backlinks that re legitimate, so that option is off the table. In addition it is near impossible to get any relevant link exchanges that are natural and of a quantity high enough to make a difference. Like the saying goes, it takes money to make money, and that applies to the internet too generally.

With these common SEO methods being pointless, your best bet is to focus on relevant content and hope it gets crawled or somehow picked up and it becomes a social media hit. Some people aim for writing one article a day, and with 365 pages being added in a year, some of them will have to be found eventually and get some traffic. It is important to go for quality and relevant content though.

Many small businesses find it hard to rank for certain things, when they should just be focused on having relevant content. Many of these businesses have bullet point listings or 100 word pages of content on what they do.

That not only gives nothing to be crawled, but will barely be relevant in the search engine’s eyes and lead to little or no significant rankings. To be successful the content should at a minimum be around 300 words and be on topic to what the site is about.

If you are adding links to the post too, it should be relevant to what is being discussed as well.

Take these for example:

Indelac Controls is a site about electric actuators. What is that?! I know right. When writing content on such obscure (to the general public) topics, it offers opportunities to rank for these phrases. Obviously that is not a heavily competitive field, so everything should be done when setting up the site to rank for these electric actuators keywords.

The electric actuator page should contain at least 300 words on the specific topic of electric actuators. Whether it is going over the specific models in the industry or explaining exactly what the electric actuator is (or both for best relevancy results when appropriate), it should stay on focus and always be relevant.

The point of search engines is to bring back relevant results and not provide searchers with pages that have little or nothing to do with what they intended to find. An electric actuator search should yield results to an electric actuator page.

Economics Wiki is a site that deals with news stories that impact the economy, economic tutorials, and economics exam questions for students. When writing a page for economics exam questions, the page should be 100% about economics exam questions.

Students look for help around exam time and when they google a question or want a study aid, they do not want pages about economic policy, wikipedia pages that talk about larger topics as a whole or the politics of economics.

When they Google economics exam questions, they want a page of economics exam questions, and that is what they should receive. Through providing relevant content on what is searched, the chances of being found and ranking for such phrases is higher.

These concepts apply for all niches and all topics. The page should be about just what is claims to be about. Your on page SEO including the titleĀ  tags, H2 tags and META tags should focus on relevancy as well.

Nobody likes going to a page that has nothing to do with what it made itself out to be. Relevant content based on search trends is the only legitimate SEO practice. Tools such as Google’s Keyword tool can help show trends for website makers on certain keyphrases and on global and monthly searches.

Once a phrase is selected though, do the right thing, and write only relevant content for that phrase. This provides users with what they want, and as all service industries show, when the customer (user) is happy, the company (webmaster) is happy. Offer them what they want (relevancy) to get what you want (impressions, hits…).
