I achieved my goal of 100,000 visitors last month, and have set a new target of 200,000. I feel that I can achieve this goal by the end of next year, but it will require some good increases in traffic each month.

In order to reach the new monthly visitor target, Technically Easy will need to continue to increase traffic each month. November was the first month in the goal to reach the 200,000 monthly visitor mark.

Setting Sights on the New Target

I was pleased with the monthly visitor numbers of November. It was a good month for traffic at Technically Easy and makes me feel confident of achieving the 200,000 monthly visitor target by the end of the year.

Last month saw the highest increase in the number of visits between two months since I have been posting my traffic stats. The number of visits more than doubled from a year ago.

The table below shows both the monthly visits and pageviews for November:

Metric November 2010 November 2011 Change
Visits 55,729 117,245 110.38%
Pageviews 77,087 150,065 94.67%

While the number of visits more than doubled, the pageviews, while still had a good increase, didn’t increase as much. This means that the visitors view less pages per visit than the previous year. I am not concerned by this number, yet, as it was still a good increase, and a few factors could come into play.

One factor could be that I have more links outgoing to Amazon, and with the holiday season, there were people leaving Technically Easy and going to Amazon.

Technically Easy has never had a high pages per visit number, so I am not too concerned with the lower increase in pageviews compared to visits.

Traffic Sources for November 2011

Last month my search engine traffic topped 100,000 visitors for the very first time. While this represented an increase of about 16,000 visits over the previous month, both referring and direct traffic decreased last month from October.

The chart below shows the breakdown for the three sources of traffic.

The decrease in both the direct and referring traffic sources was a result of me not be as active online. I had dropped my interaction online substantially last month, and the results above illustrate that.

The increase in search engine traffic managed to make up for the decrease in the other two sources, but I’ll have to look at increasing all three this month in order to continue my traffic increase.

Overall, I think November was a good traffic month. There was a nice increase in the overall number of visitors to Technically Easy, but I feel I can do even better in December as I continue to work towards 200,000 monthly visitors.

  1. Hi Paul
As always great to watch how you have been doing traffic wise. My own November has been the best in my blogs one year lifetime. I had more than 4000 visitors for the first time. I know that there is a long way to your 100.000, but my blog is still very young, so I am happy. My Search Engine traffic is about 67% and my referral is about 17%.I am pretty happy about that too. Looking forward to see how December will turn out.
    Have a nice weekend Paul.

    • Congratulations on reaching 4,000 visitors. You seem to have good search engine traffic, as well as referral traffic. Having a good spread of traffic across search engines, referral and direct is something that I struggle with month-to-month.

  2. Awesome stats, Paul. Quite surprised to find a tech blog that has more search engine visitors percentage than my blog though. Like you, I would really want to have more referral traffics to balance out somehow.

    • This was an interesting month in terms of search engine percentage. I don’t usually reach 90%, and I am trying to actually reduce this percentage as we know what can happen from time-to-time when Google changes their algorithm.

  3. Hi Paul, Congrats on reaching your goals! It’s amazing how much traffic one can get when they provide quality content and give readers what they need. When that happens, Panda looks the other way :)

  4. First off – kudos on 100k and happy vibes for the 200k goal!

Second, do you have any other thoughts regarding pageviews? I’m wondering specifically about the differences of pageviews among personal bloggers/B2C/B2B sites. Just a random thought of mine… of course one of the issues my site has is we utilize unbounce for our landing pages (which use a subdomain) so it took me 3 weeks to realize my analytics code wasn’t picking up the sub domain traffic *headdesk*

And just randomly – what’s the breakdown on your repeat visitors? Especially with the amazon links I would be curious to see who is leaving and coming back, or who is leaving and never returns.

Good gravy I am being a nosey! parker lol :)

  6. 100,000 visitors per month is very impressive. Wishing you all the very best for 200,000. BTW, the yearly graph shows more than 100% increase. So, going by the same trend you should be able to achieve your target! All the best.

    • Thanks. Keep up the pace is the hardest part, but while I may have some down months, I’m still hoping to reach my target by the end of next year.

  7. Hi Paul
Did you know your theme is broken when a commenter includes their twitter ID? It pushes down the date to the next line. Unless you hit Enter at the start of your comment, or write a very short first line (as I did here), the first line is partially obscured by the date. It seems to do the same thing in both Firefox and Chrome. Thought you should know about that.

Actually it reached 100,000 visits in September but all my efforts were destroyed by the Panda update. Hopefully you will reach your new milestone soon. :)

  18. Awesome search engines traffic :) Like you, I don’t spend much online (for networking and doing other marketing stuffs).. as a result I get mostly search engine visitors just like you. Most of them came to a post looking for a specific info, they got it, and they left :(

    • Unfortunately, the downside to someone finding information and leaving is the high bounce rate. So far I haven’t noticed anything bad with a high bounce rate, but I would like to get it lower.

  19. Wow, it’s really a agreat achievement and it all goes to your hard work and dedication. Search Engine traffic is very importatnt and 90% SE traffic is commendable.
