If you are thinking about becoming a successful blogger, then you would first need to realize that it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes many years of hard work to achieve success has a blogger.

A lot of people seem to think that starting up a blog is easy and it immediately means they are going to see a steady increase of traffic appearing within weeks when this is just not going to happen (if you are doing things legitimately). A lot of start ups will not see increase in traffic and then give up all hope, after all what is the point in spending hours creating great content that no one is reading right? Have patience, the visits will come and the interaction will arrive so here are a few tips on becoming a successful blogger.

Becoming a Successful Blogger Requires an Interesting Blog

Although most people will be writing about a subject that interests them you need to think about the niche you are writing for. Are people really going to be interested in a site that just discusses the things that happen in your life? Not unless you make it really interesting to read. There is nothing wrong with writing about what happens to you from time to time but try and stick to the audience you are writing for as much as possible.

Don’t Worry About Becoming a Successful Blogger

Try not to worry about how stupid the niche you are writing for is as it doesn’t make a difference. Sure a blog on SEO and Social Media will attract a lot of visits but that doesn’t mean a blog that is all about knitting is not going to get dedicated readers over time that hang on to your every word. For me it is not about the numbers but the interaction!

Making Contacts

Creating contacts is also something you should be doing and in order to do this you should be using social media platforms like Twitter as well as doing searches for blogs out there that are similar to yours. Once you have met these people you can share posts, ideas and even get to know one another and become buddies. Once you are in with these people they will send your posts to their friends (providing you do the same for them) and will come onto your blog to comment and get a bit more involved.

Being nice to these people and doing favours for them initially is the best way to gain contacts that are going to benefit you in the long run to becoming a successful blogger.

Making Time

We all know that running a blog takes time and you need to be planning on putting a piece out every single day of the week. By piece I am talking about something that is actually worth reading and not something full of spelling mistakes and very short (I am guilty of this). It is tough having a full time job and a life as well as trying to write blog posts that are interesting and engaging everyday of the week. If you want to start becoming a successful blogger it simply has to be done. On top of this you need to make time for answering comments and perhaps even gaining links and traction to the site too.

The key thing to remember when it comes to blogging is to make sure you have the time free to commit to the blog, if you don’t even have this then you shouldn’t be thinking about a blog. Also remember that good results take time but when they arrive they are very rewarding, and you can stop worrying about becoming a successful blogger, and start being one.

  1. Hey there Ryan,
Some great tips there, You are right time is one of the most important fact that decides the success of a blog. Most bloggers think that traffic will come as soon as they start a blog or write an article but it is not that, traffic to our blog grows slowly and steadily. It is important to have good enough content to attract that traffic.

    • Posts I wrote over a year ago are starting to generate some traffic for me. It takes time for search engines to start displaying the articles in good positions in the results pages. Time and hard-work are very important when trying to achieve success online.

  2. Yeah. Working full time + your own life do not help at all, do they? :)
Fortunately, I’m still single so I can still do stuffs such as blogging and all that at night :P

    • Tell me about it. With a full time job, a wife and kids, it can be tough to find time to blog. It is all about finding a nice balance between all the responsibilities.

      • Completely agree! I’m still in college so I have different, yet very time consuming responsibilities. However, I’ve found many aspects of working on my site are interesting and so enjoyable that it’s really worth it, even on a daily basis. So as much as time is an issue, it all goes back to whether you enjoy it or not.

      • Ugh.. don’t think I can still blog when I have a wife and kids. Or maybe I will but not as often as I can know

        • It can be hard to find the time to work on a blog with a wife and kids. It’s all about finding the time to do everything. Some days I can’t find anytime to work on my blog, while others I can find a few hours.

          • SO you have a full time job too, if it is so, then full time job + Blogging + wife and kids…oh my god I am wondering how you are doing it

            • Finding the right balance is crucial. Somedays the balance is there, other days it isn’t.

  3. I think one of the most important decisions a blogger can make is to choose a theme and stick with it. This way you have the best chances of success by becoming known as the go-to person for that topic. You’ll get loyal readers who are interested and passionate about your subject and you’ll make the search engines happy.

    • I think you are talking about a “niche”? I agree, that you should find a niche you are interested in, and stick with it. When I started this blog I chose a broad niche which can be difficult in becoming an expert. Sort of like the “jack-of-all-trades” but “master-of-none” scenario.

  4. we need to be patience! cuz we people always want to reach our goals very fast! but when we face the truth that we need to wait more and more! we feel like gave up ^,^ blogging is a long way but the good part! when we reach our goals we will have massive of experience! thanks alot for sharing this information !!

  5. Blogging requires a lot of patience as pointed out by faissal, but it’s amazing how Google tends to index and rank some blogs early at times. I’ve experienced this on some of my blogs and keep wondering what I’ve done differently. Anyway, others show up later and generate traffic too in the long run after a relatively long wait.
Thanks for the great article. Cheers!

    • Blogging does take a lot of patience. Each blog is indexed at a different rate, but over the long term, it can even out in terms of traffic.

  6. In my point of view to become a successful blogger is.. choose the niche what you are interested {don’t choose only high paying keywords} about and start sharing the good post in blog and wait.. wait.. for few month or even a years defiantly your blog will receive some good traffic then you start monetizing your blog.

    • Hi Arun. I agree with you about choosing a niche that interests you. Too many people choose a niche just because of the high-paying keywords, and they only publish a few pages. Eventually the site doesn’t go anywhere and then makes nothing in the end.

  7. Hi there. Thanks for sharing his. Yes, I agree with you. Timing is one of the most important element there.
