And who can say if Google values content on their servers more highly than other blogs on the Internet?

One thing you forgot to consider, and a big reason we have stayed with the Blogger platform although we’re stretching it to its limits is the fact that content gets indexed by Google almost instantaneously. Both are equally good, the choice depends upon the need of the user. Blogger gives you all the freedom that you want.
you can play around with blogger themes, widgets, scripts.
when it comes to employing scripts which require server tweaks than you have to go for wordpress.org hosted sites.
I think for a beginner a blogger is the best option to try his or her hands. later one can move the blog to anyother service.

I have blogs hosted on both blogger and wordpress. No problem at all whatsoever.
Flawless integration, lots of customization possible. Finally I trust Google, at least for now.
Tried Wordpress.com but it is really very much owned by Mark. You can't do that, you can't do this. If I can't even use a script, then why in world I should blog thru wordpress.com.
Hosting thru wordpress.org is the only option but that looks tough to install and not so cost effective.
I think for now I am good with $10 per year on Blogger with a domain from Godaddy.com.

Finally,
Looking for cheap, customizable option - Go for Blogger (free or custom domain)
Have lots of money and is good with server and other technicalities - Go for wordpress.org.

Thanks
Anurag Bansal
http://www.knowliz.com

Blogger for me.<br

The WordPress plugins are my favorite feature by far. But for those getting started, there are many benefits to using Blogger. It is definitely easier to use and setup. The good news is, when you're ready to switch from Blogger to WordPress, importing your posts and comments is a snap.

Having used both, I vote for WordPress. It makes it so easy to keep things organized and archived. And with the number of modules out there, you can customize it however you want. Better still, if there is something you want for your site, and there isn't a module out there for it, designing your own or finding a willing person in the Joomla community to design it for you is a snap.

I use Joomla on my site, and I love it. I followed the step by step directions. I did have to contact my host tech support to find out what the correct server name was (my host actually had it in their FAQs). It was quite easy to set up and I've had remarkably few problems with it.

I highly recommend hosting your own over using blogger or free WordPress hosting. You get much more flexibility in developing your themes and what you install on your site.

I was a complete novice the first time I installed WordPress on a site. It was quite easy to set up and I’ve had remarkably few problems with it.

I highly recommend hosting your own over using blogger or free WordPress hosting. You get much more flexibility in developing your themes and what you install on your site.

By: Beau71

<guid

Just personal preference I imagine, or maybe my long history with it.

I tend to lean towards using WordPress over Blogger. I see that although you have a custom domain, your comments are on blogger.com, which makes me wonder if that doesn't leave you open to potentially losing that data at some point since it's owned by Google.

Self-hosted is the only way to go IMO if you are a serious blogger. No matter what blogging software you use, be it Drupal, Typepad, Wordpress or Blogger, you leave yourself so terribly vulnerable to someone else's perception of TOS violations if you don't self host.

I lost over 2 years worth of blog posts when Wordpress.com closed down eyesp20.wordpress.com. It hurt terribly as there were so many original poems and articles I had poured myself into on that site. And there was absolutely no recourse. They would not return emails, nor evidently would they consider my removing whatever they found objectionable, so I learned my lesson the hard way.

There are so many hosting packages out there that are very reasonable these days, it almost doesn't make any sense to not have your own domain and host. Although shared hosting can still get you in some hot water, it's still much safer than free hosting ever could be. You have so much more control over your own destiny.

And, in reality, Wordpress isn't all that hard to use.

ê¿ê

Blogger may be easy to use, but if you read your TOS, Google owns your content.

I can’t tell you how many blogs I see that get closed down by google for violation of TOS.
